Egypt opens 2025 tax filing season with digital push

Egypt has officially launched its 2025 tax filing season, the head of the country's tax authority Rasha Abdel Aal announced Saturday, part of a broader government drive to simplify procedures and boost voluntary compliance.

The filing window opened on January 1 and will run through March 31 for individuals, Abdel Aal said in a statement. Legal entities and corporations have until April 30, or four months from the end of their fiscal year, to submit their returns.

Under the directives of Finance Minister Ahmed Kouchouk, all filings must be submitted electronically through the Egyptian Tax Authority's (ETA) official digital platforms.

The ETA chief noted that the filing process is split between two digital systems as the country continues its move toward full automation: Main Tax Procedures System: Used by major taxpayers, professionals, and medium-sized enterprises in Cairo, Alexandria, Hurghada, and Qalyubia, and Electronic Tax Services Portal: Remains the platform for all other taxpayers across the country.

To facilitate the process, the ETA has launched a nationwide support plan. This includes free daily webinars led by experts to guide taxpayers and accountants through the electronic filing steps and resolve technical issues.

Abdel Aal added that technical support committees have been deployed to professional syndicates, chambers of commerce, and civil society institutions. Dedicated teams are also available at tax offices across the republic.

The tax chief urged citizens and businesses to meet the deadlines, framing the measures as an effort to enhance transparency and build trust between the state and the taxpayer.
