Egypt, Korea sign MoU to modernize trade, e-commerce systems

Ahmed Amawi, Head of the Customs Authority, affirmed Egypt’s commitment to strengthening technical and technological cooperation with international partners, particularly the Korean Customs Service, as part of the state’s plans to develop and modernize the customs system and support digital transformation. He highlighted that these efforts aim to improve the business environment and enhance the competitiveness of the Egyptian economy.

The remarks came during the signing of a memorandum of understanding with the Korean Customs Service to develop information and communication technology systems within the Egyptian customs framework, facilitate and secure trade, and support e-commerce in line with the latest international standards.

Amawi added that cooperation with the Korean side represents a key step in developing and enhancing the efficiency of the customs system, helping reduce clearance times and improve services provided to the business community.

He emphasized Egypt’s intention to benefit from Korean technological expertise and build capacities in smart systems, e-commerce, and modern logistics services. He also noted plans to organize training programs for customs staff and support the establishment of integrated logistics systems for express mail shipments.

Lee Myung-Koo, Head of the Korean Customs Service, expressed his eagerness to exchange knowledge and technical expertise with the Egyptian side to support digital transformation and e-commerce, praising the Egyptian Customs Authority’s efforts in modernization and digital development.
