This step marks a major milestone in the development of
digital payments in Egypt. It allows citizens to pay essential government
service fees, including electricity, utilities, traffic fines, and civil
registry services, directly through their mobile phone balance or monthly phone
bill. The service expands access to new segments of the population who own
mobile phones but do not use bank accounts or cards. It also makes it easier
for all citizens to access essential government services at any time through
simple and seamless steps without complex procedures.
The agreement was signed by Mr. Ahmed Nabil, General Manager
of Tpay Egypt, and Eng. Mohamed Shamroukh, Chairman of the NTRA, marking a key
step in enabling and activating mobile government payments in Egypt.
Işık Uman, CEO of the Tpay Group, said:
“This development represents a turning point in enabling
secure and seamless payment for government services via mobile numbers. Through
this agreement, we are laying the foundation for a national digital payment
channel that expands access, enhances ease of use, and supports Egypt’s
evolving digital economy. Our mission as a payment enabler is to simplify
transactions and bring essential services closer to every citizen.”
Financial inclusion data indicate that 76.3% of adults in
Egypt have bank accounts, while mobile phone and internet usage is nearing full
penetration. This highlights a significant opportunity to extend digital
payments to a larger segment of the population via mobile devices.
The license strengthens Tpay’s role as a payment enabler for
mobile government services in Egypt. It provides a reliable, flexible, and
scalable pathway for collecting government fees and paves the way for further
growth as more government services transition to digital channels.
