Egypt mulls Hurghada airport private offer; IFC involved

Minister of Civil Aviation Dr. Sameh El-Hefny met today Monday with a delegation from the International Finance Corporation (IFC) at the Ministry's headquarters in the New Administrative Capital to review the final stages of technical studies for offering the management and operation of Hurghada International Airport to the private sector.

The meeting, attended by IFC Regional Manager for North Africa Sheikh Oumar Kamel Seyla, focused on completing all requirements for the Request for Qualification (RFQ) documents ahead of the offering.

Minister El-Hefny affirmed that Egypt is adopting a comprehensive vision to enhance private sector participation in infrastructure development, including offering several Egyptian airports for management and operation. He explained this strategy aims to improve operational efficiency, maximize economic returns, and boost the civil aviation system by leveraging private sector expertise and increasing the competitiveness of Egyptian airports.

El-Hefny stressed that the planned partnerships are strictly limited to the development, management, and operation of the facilities, emphasizing that Egypt's sovereignty over these assets will remain intact.

Sheikh Oumar Kamel Seyla highlighted the cooperation between the IFC and Egypt’s civil aviation sector as an excellent partnership model. He reiterated the IFC's commitment to providing its expertise to ensure accurate studies that enhance management efficiency and support Egypt's plan to boost private sector involvement, noting that Hurghada International Airport represents a prominent and promising opportunity in the region.
