Minister of Public Business Sector, Engineer Mohamed Shimi, met with Mr. Sifi Ghrieb, Prime Minister of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria, who inaugurated the conference.

Engineer Shimi emphasized that Egyptian-Algerian relations are historic and deeply rooted. He highlighted the fraternal ties between the two countries and the renewed momentum in these relations, reflecting their shared commitment to strengthening cooperation. He also stressed the importance of developing strategic partnerships with Algeria in the pharmaceutical sector, noting that the Holding Company for Pharmaceuticals (HCP) is affiliated with the Ministry. He added that this opens wide opportunities for joint projects to support local production of medicines and medical supplies, contributing to Africa’s efforts to achieve health sovereignty and enhance domestic manufacturing.

Mr. Ghrieb welcomed the Egyptian delegation and stressed the importance of expanding partnerships between the two countries across various economic and investment sectors. He noted that such cooperation promotes sustainable development, supports shared interests, and opens new avenues for joint initiatives.

The meeting follows the recent visit of the Algerian Prime Minister to Cairo, where he co-chaired with Egyptian Prime Minister Dr. Moustafa Madbouly the ninth session of the Egyptian-Algerian Joint Higher Committee and the Egypt-Algeria Business Forum. Those events witnessed the signing of several agreements, memoranda of understanding (MoUs), and cooperation programs across multiple sectors, reflecting the strategic direction of both countries to strengthen economic and developmental partnership.

Shimi concluded that Egypt’s participation in the conference demonstrates its commitment to supporting Africa’s vision for a strong pharmaceutical industry and to working jointly with Algeria and other African nations to achieve health security across the continent.
