Minister of Housing Engineer Sherif El Sherbiny arrived in Fayoum Governorate to inspect several projects under the presidential Decent Life initiative. The visit aimed to follow up on implementation progress and review development projects in New Fayoum City. Dr. Ahmed El Ansary, Governor of Fayoum, received the minister at the governorate headquarters. The minister held a meeting with officials from the Ministry of Housing, the governorate, the Central Agency for Reconstruction, the Holding Company for Water and Wastewater, the National Authority for Drinking Water and Wastewater, the Water and Wastewater Regulatory Authority, the Fayoum Water and Wastewater Company and the implementing companies.

The minister expressed his appreciation to the Governor of Fayoum for the warm reception and confirmed his satisfaction with visiting the governorate. He stated that the visit aims to accelerate progress in drinking water and sanitation projects, especially those under the Decent Life initiative. He added that these projects receive constant attention from President Abdel Fattah El Sisi and Prime Minister Dr. Moustafa Madbouly. He explained that the visit includes field inspections to support ongoing works, address challenges and ensure efficient implementation.

The minister noted that the Ministry of Housing follows up regularly with Fayoum Governorate on the progress of drinking water, sanitation and service-building projects under the Decent Life initiative. He described the projects as strategic investments that improve quality of life and meet citizens’ needs.

El Ansary welcomed the Minister of Housing and affirmed that the visit reflects the state’s commitment to increasing the pace of service and development projects. He highlighted the importance of expanding drinking water and sanitation services, describing them as essential services that directly affect citizens. He added that the governorate monitors these projects closely to ensure delivery according to the highest quality standards.

He emphasized that cooperation between Fayoum Governorate and the Ministry of Housing is producing tangible results on the ground. He stated that current projects reflect the state’s efforts to provide an integrated services infrastructure across all governorates. He added that these efforts align with the leadership’s vision to raise living standards and provide a dignified environment for citizens.

The meeting reviewed the status of projects and development plans in New Fayoum City, along with the stages of the city’s growth. The review covered utilities, main water supply sources and the sanitation and electricity sectors. Total investments reached 2.259 billion Egyptian pounds from the start of work in the city until 30 June 2025. The meeting also reviewed the 2025 to 2026 work plan, including key projects such as the road connecting the city to the governorate, the electricity network of the second industrial zone in the eastern extension and landscaping works along several roads. The meeting discussed major projects under tender that focus on development, infrastructure, agriculture and beautification. Proposals for the city’s development were also reviewed, including the construction of an overpass on the Cairo to Assiut Western Road to connect the eastern and western parts of the city.

The minister and the governor reviewed the progress of projects implemented by the Central Agency for Reconstruction under the Decent Life initiative in Fayoum Governorate. The projects include 367 developments comprising 20 service complexes, 20 agricultural complexes, 68 youth centers, 43 irrigation bridges, 63 health units and centers, 19 ambulance points, 8 social solidarity buildings, 63 electricity projects and road works in 63 villages.

Sherbiny directed officials to adhere to the implementation schedule and expedite handover procedures for completed projects. He also called for resolving all outstanding issues before delivery.

The minister and the governor reviewed the sanitation projects under the first phase of the Decent Life initiative in Fayoum Governorate. The National Authority for Potable Water and Sanitation is implementing these projects at a cost of 7.83 billion Egyptian pounds to serve 46 villages in the Itsa and Youssef El Seddik districts. The projects include eight wastewater treatment plants with a capacity of 72500 cubic meters per day and eleven sanitation projects.

Sherbiny and El Ansary reviewed the performance of the governorate’s drinking water system, which consists of ten water treatment plants with a design capacity of 853000 cubic meters per day. The system operates through water networks that extend 5400 kilometers, along with transmission lines and raw water intakes. They also reviewed the sanitation system, which includes 146 wastewater treatment and pumping stations with an actual capacity of 320000 cubic meters per day and gravity sewer networks extending approximately 1369 kilometers.

The meeting reviewed the completed rehabilitation and replacement projects of the Fayoum Water and Wastewater Company from 2014 to 2022. It also reviewed the projects implemented from 2023 to 2025 and the company’s role within the Decent Life initiative. The projects serve 63 villages in two districts and include sanitation networks for fifteen villages, sanitation and drinking water connections for thirty six villages and five drinking water plants. The review also covered ongoing sanitation expansion projects funded by development partners.
