Suez Canal Co. launches first modern tourist yacht production

Head of the Suez Canal Authority (SCA), Lieutenant General Osama Rabie, today oversaw the launch ceremony of a new luxury tourist yacht, marking the inaugural production of tourist yachts by the Suez Canal Modern Boats Company (SCMBC).

The SCMBC is a partnership between the SCA and the South Red Sea Shipyard Company. This initiative is in implementation of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi's directives to localize the maritime industry in Egypt.

The yacht is 37 meters long and 8.2 meters wide, weighing 135 tons. It features a distinctive Sport Fisherman design with 2600 hp MTU engines and comprises a master suite, four annexes, and four crew cabins.

The yacht is equipped with two forward hydraulic units for operating a multi-purpose forward winch, as well as a stern hydraulic unit for operating a dedicated swimming platform.

The hull is of a unique design by the American office Fryco Yachts, with interiors by global designer Georges Vafiadis. Construction is supervised by the Italian Classification Society RINA.

Rabie stated that the SCMBC presents an ambitious new vision to boost the localization of the maritime industry under the slogan "Made in Egypt" with world-class quality, positioning it for regional competition and foreign export.

He added that work is accelerating at SCMBC to complete the equipment for the fiberglass factories in the company's designated industrial zone in Safaga, parallel to starting several company projects to build yachts and excursion boats for tourism purposes.

Mustafa Al-Degheishy, CEO of SCMBC, confirmed that the company has initiated several parallel projects to serve the marine tourism sector, including:

Building another tourist yacht of 18 meters.

Preparing a fiberglass mold to produce multiple copies of the yacht once the factory is operational.

Constructing two 17-meter, 15-passenger excursion boats for the SCA's use.

Building a Nile Taxi unit with a capacity of 25 passengers for Nile tourism.

During his visit, Rabie inspected the ongoing construction of new tugboats, with the delivery of the two tugs, "Azm 3" and "Azm 4," scheduled for the end of next December. He also followed up on the pipe installation and mechanical works for the two fishing vessels, "Rizk 1" and "Rizk 2."

On the sidelines of his visit, Rabie met with a delegation from the global company Svitzer, which specializes in towing, salvage, and tugboat operations, to discuss avenues for joint cooperation.

The SCA head concluded his tour by inspecting the new tourist yacht factory belonging to SCMBC to monitor progress and check on the status of new marine unit construction.
