Sisi calls for stronger Egypt-Russia trade, tourism ties

President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi on Monday received Nikolai Patrushev, Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, in Cairo for talks on bilateral cooperation and regional stability.

The meeting was attended by Egyptian Foreign Minister Dr. Badr Abdelatty, General Intelligence Chief Hassan Rashad, and Presidential Advisor for National Security Faiza Aboul Naga. The Russian delegation included Deputy Security Council Secretary Alexander Venediktov, Ambassador Georgy Borisenko, Deputy Director of the Foreign Intelligence Service Sergei Mikheev, and other officials.

Presidential Spokesman Ambassador Mohamed El-Shenawy reported that Sisi asked Patrushev to convey his greetings to Russian President Vladimir Putin, expressing Egypt's appreciation for its close, developing, and vibrant relationship with Russia, which culminated in the signing of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Agreement between the two countries.

Patrushev, for his part, conveyed President Putin's greetings and appreciation, affirming Russia's commitment to continuing to develop and enhance bilateral relations with Egypt, alongside ongoing political consultations on issues of mutual concern.

The meeting addressed several regional and international issues. Sisi stressed the need to continue efforts to achieve stability in the Middle Eastern countries and preserve their unity, sovereignty, and the resources of their peoples.

Sisi underscored the necessity of the full implementation of the Sharm El-Sheikh ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip in all its phases, the consolidation of the ceasefire, and ensuring the unrestricted entry of sufficient humanitarian aid into the Strip.

Both sides affirmed that the two-state solution and the establishment of a Palestinian state, in line with international legitimacy references, is the sole path to achieving a just, lasting peace and stability in the region.

Sisi also expressed Egypt's support for all efforts aimed at settling the Russian-Ukrainian crisis and achieving a comprehensive peace.

El-Shenawy added that the meeting also covered ways to strengthen bilateral relations and explore opportunities for development in various fields, particularly political, commercial, and investment areas.

Both sides stressed the importance of building upon the agreements reached during the summit between Sisi and Putin during the Egyptian President’s visit to Moscow for the Victory Day celebrations in May 2025.

Discussions also touched upon the Russian Industrial Zone project in the Suez Canal Economic Zone and the El Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant project, among other files. Sisi emphasized the importance of intensifying economic and investment cooperation, working to increase trade volume, and boosting collaboration in the tourism sector.

The meeting concluded with the Russian Security Council Secretary affirming his country's appreciation for Egypt's role in the Middle East, noting that history will remember Sisi's pivotal role in achieving regional stability, and confirming Russia's commitment to continued coordination with Egypt.
