Public Business Sector Minister Mohamed Shimi chaired a general assembly meeting of the Holding Company for Tourism and Hotels on Thursday, approving its 2025/2026 draft budget and outlining ambitious development plans for the sector.

The meeting, attended by board members and representatives from the Central Auditing Organization, saw Accountant Amr Atteya, the company's Executive Managing Director, present financial targets. The Holding Company and its subsidiaries aim for revenues of EGP 13.1 billion, a consolidated net profit of EGP 6.5 billion, and planned investments of EGP 4.2 billion. Mohamed Maged El Menshawy, the company's non-executive chairman, was also present.

Engineer Shimi stressed the ministry's commitment to an integrated strategy for restructuring and developing the Holding Company, aiming to boost its contribution to the national economy and enhance Egypt's competitiveness as a tourist destination.

He highlighted key initiatives including expanding hotel capacity, upgrading infrastructure, and delivering world-class tourism services. Efforts involve reviving historic hotels, increasing room availability, and introducing new tourism products to improve visitor experience and bolster Egypt's global appeal.

The meeting reviewed several projects by the Holding Company and its subsidiaries, including:

Hotel Developments: Modernizing the Nefertari Hotel in Abu Simbel, expanding the El Lisan Hotel in Ras El Bar, revitalizing the historic Continental Hotel, developing the Shepheard Hotel and the Nile Ritz Carlton in Downtown Cairo, and extending the Aura Hotel on the North Coast.

Cultural Attractions: Enhancing "Sound and Light" shows at the Pyramids, Qaitbay Citadel, and Karnak Temple, and introducing virtual reality experiences at various archaeological sites.

Commercial and Training Upgrades: Updating branches of domestic trade companies (Hano/Benzyoun, Saidnawy, Omar Effendi), developing hotel institutes, and modernizing training programs.

Industrial Expansion: Establishing a new plastic wood factory for the Commercial Timber Company.

The Minister underscored the importance of adhering to project timelines, improving the efficiency of hotel institutes, and qualifying human resources. He also emphasized strengthening occupational safety, health, and environmental protection standards. Shimi directed the accelerated implementation of an ERP system for digital transformation and improved governance, alongside developing the tourism transport system. He stressed the need for clear performance indicators to ensure efficient execution.

Shimi concluded by affirming the ministry's priority to optimally utilize state-owned assets, transforming them into sustainable sources of income and employment in line with Egypt's Vision 2030. "We seek to offer a modern tourism and hotel product that aligns with global trends, while adhering to international standards for occupational safety, health, and environmental sustainability," he stated.
