PM Madbouly attends opening of Jumia Egypt’s largest warehouse

Jumia, the leading e-commerce platform in Africa, inaugurated its newest integrated warehouse in Egypt, located on the Suez Road.

The inauguration was attended by Dr. Moustafa Madbouly, Prime Minister of Egypt; Dr. Amr Talaat, Minister of Communications and Information Technology; and Professor Ibrahim Saber, Governor of Cairo.

The new warehouse spans over 27,000 square meters and serves as an integrated logistics center aimed at enhancing the efficiency of warehousing and distribution operations and accelerating delivery across all governorates, particularly Upper Egypt. This warehouse is one of Jumia's largest investments in Egypt, underscoring the company's strong confidence in Egypt's economic and logistical position on the African continent.

This new investment represents a pivotal step in supporting Jumia's production and service capabilities. The new warehouse boasts a strategic location and large capacity, enabling it to accommodate thousands of products across various categories. It is also equipped with the latest smart management and storage systems, which contribute to accelerating the processing and delivery processes and improving customer satisfaction. This warehouse is a key pillar in strengthening Jumia's logistics network, supporting future expansion plans and providing a robust infrastructure to serve sellers and consumers more efficiently. This aligns with the company's ongoing commitment to delivering high-quality services and reinforcing Egypt's digital economy.

It also supports investment in local products and manufacturing by providing customized solutions for Egyptian merchants and manufacturers through the Jumia platform.

Jumia announced that the new warehouse is expected to contribute to the creation of up to 10,000 direct and indirect job opportunities within the e-commerce ecosystem in the coming years, strengthening the company's role in supporting the national economy and empowering Egyptian youth.

Madbouly praised Jumia's successes in the Egyptian market over the past years, describing the announcement of new investments in this warehouse as a continuation of the company’s growing presence. He stated that the move reflects the confidence of major international companies in the Egyptian investment climate and supports national goals related to digital transformation, logistics infrastructure development, and job creation.

Mr. Abdellatif Olama, CEO of Jumia Egypt, welcomed the visit and acknowledged the Egyptian government's attention to promising companies in the sector. He considered the new facility a milestone that demonstrates Jumia's long-term investment strategy in Egypt, which the company views as a strategic hub for its regional operations. The warehouse is seen as a significant leap in the level of services provided to customers and partners, supporting the company's broader vision to build an integrated platform that merges technology with logistics across the continent. The facility is also expected to support the company’s continued growth in the Egyptian market.

This expansion supports Jumia's advanced technological operations in Egypt, as the country hosts one of the group's largest technology centers on the continent, contributing to the development of smart supply chain solutions and an improved customer experience.

Egypt is one of the largest technology centers within the Jumia Group, home to a select group of engineers and developers working on developing digital solutions and smart logistics systems to support operations across various African countries.

Olama gave a presentation reviewing Jumia's achievements in the Egyptian and African markets, as well as the company's future plans. He emphasized the strategic importance of Egypt as a major hub for Jumia's operations in the region.

The Prime Minister also met with the Jumia team, who gave him a detailed explanation of the e-commerce logistics operations cycle within the warehouse. This provided an up-close view of how orders are managed and executed, from receipt to shipment to customers across the country.

The opening of this warehouse is part of a broader strategy implemented by Jumia to expand its infrastructure across the continent. This move is expected to accelerate growth. The company has previously opened similar facilities in Côte d'Ivoire, Nigeria, Ghana, and Morocco, strengthening Jumia's position as a key partner in supporting digital transformation and economic development in Africa.
