PETROJET awarded $1.087 bn contract for Algerian oil field project

Egypt's cabinet media centre on Monday praised the achievement of the state-owned Petroleum Projects and Technical Consultations Company (PETROJET), which has received a preliminary award for a general contract worth $1.087 billion to develop the second phase of the Hassi Bir Rekaiz field in Algeria.

The award came after the company successfully passed the qualification stage following a competition with major international firms that had submitted bids.

The media centre's report stated that PETROJET is cooperating with the Italian firm Arkad Spa as part of a consortium led by PETROJET to execute the project, which is for the Hassi Bir Rekaiz complex, a partnership between Algeria’s Sonatrach and Thailand’s PTTEP.

The project involves the construction of a central processing facility with a capacity of 31,500 barrels per day, along with associated facilities, including 217 kilometres of pipelines.

The report added that this project is considered a "strategic milestone" for PETROJET and a result of major efforts to strengthen the company’s presence in the Algerian market. This is happening alongside an ongoing project to establish joint manufacturing workshops with Sonatrach, which will help maximise added value and utilise the company's surplus capacity, especially in foreign markets, to achieve lucrative foreign currency returns.
