Gobran: Thursday paid holiday for private sector workers

Mohamed Gobran, Minister of Labor, announced today, Monday, that Thursday, May 1, 2025, will be an official paid holiday on the occasion of Labor Day for private sector workers subject to the provisions of the Labor Law.

Employers are also entitled to employ workers on this day if work conditions so require. In this case, the worker is entitled, in addition to his or her wage for that day, to double that wage.

The Ministry issued Circular No. 9 of 2025 regarding granting workers subject to the provisions of Labor Law No. 12 of 2003 paid official leave on the occasion of Labor Day. Accordingly, the heads of the central departments in the Ministry’s office and the directors of the labor directorates - each within the limits of their jurisdiction - are committed to working to disseminate the provisions of this circular in work and production sites to work in accordance with it, and to be alert about putting its provisions into practice.

This circular is in implementation of Article 52 of Labor Law No. 12 of 2003, which states: "Private sector workers are entitled to fully paid leave for official holidays and occasions determined by a decision issued by the Minister of Labor." This is in light of the issuance of Decision No. 49 of 2009 by the Minister of Manpower and Immigration regarding the determination of the holidays that are considered leave with full pay for workers.

Gobran, extended his sincere congratulations to the workers of Egypt, and the builders of the new republic, praying to God to bring this occasion back to Egypt, with goodness, more development, and prosperity under the leadership of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.
