Walid Gamal El-Din, Chairman of the General Authority for the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZone), began his promotional tour in Tokyo as part of the Authority’s plan to attract new investments in industry, clean energy, and logistics services.

The first day included meetings with leading Japanese companies and officials from the Tokyo Metropolitan Government. Gamal El-Din also attended the opening of the Hydrogen Energy Conference for Action (HENCA 2025).

Gamal El-Din met with the Techno Park Division team of Toyota Tsusho Corporation. The meeting discussed cooperation in developing industrial and logistics zones. It also addressed the company’s plan to establish a Japanese industrial zone under the developer system, which would boost future partnerships in green manufacturing, advanced technologies, and smart industrial zone management. Both sides referred to their ongoing cooperation on the soon-to-open roll-on/roll-off (RORO) terminal at East Port Said Port.

He also met with senior executives of Zensho Holding Corporation, a major Japanese group operating in food manufacturing, supply chains, and restaurants. The meeting discussed cooperation to establish joint industrial projects in food processing, packaging, and storage within SCZone’s industrial areas. This cooperation supports localizing food supply chains and boosting exports to regional and global markets.

Gamal El-Din emphasized that the Suez Canal Economic Zone serves as an ideal platform for Japanese companies seeking manufacturing and distribution hubs connecting Asia, Africa, and Europe. He added that combining Japan’s expertise in supply chain management with SCZone’s advanced logistics infrastructure creates new opportunities for sustainable industrial and food cooperation.

He met with Shinichi Tanaka, Director General of the Bureau of Industrial and Labor Affairs, in the presence of Egypt’s Ambassador to Japan, Ragy El-Etreby, and Dr. Mohamed Abdel Gawad, Egypt’s Commercial Counselor in Tokyo. The meeting discussed cooperation in green hydrogen and clean energy. Gamal El-Din reviewed the zone’s infrastructure and investment potential, confirming that cooperation with Japan in clean energy and sustainable technologies strengthens SCZone’s position as a regional hub for future industries and supports Egypt’s transition to a green economy.

Gamal El-Din also met with Tokyo Governor Yuriko Koike to attend the opening of the Hydrogen Energy Conference for Action (HENCA 2025), one of Japan’s most prominent international events on green hydrogen policies and projects.

During his address at the conference’s main session, Gamal El-Din presented SCZone’s strategy to localize the green fuel industry. He highlighted the zone’s strategic location and integrated infrastructure, which qualify it to become a regional center for green fuel production and export. He added that SCZone seeks to attract investments in related industries such as solar panel and wind turbine manufacturing. He noted that the zone hosts Egypt Green Hydrogen, the first project of its kind in Egypt, marking the first step toward establishing an integrated system for green hydrogen production and export.

The visit came in response to an official invitation from the Tokyo Metropolitan Government. The tour aims to strengthen industrial cooperation between Egypt and Japan and attract new investments to the Suez Canal Economic Zone in line with Egypt’s strategy to localize advanced industries and promote the green economy.
