El-Wazir: Deal to manufacture, supply 1,350 railway cars from Hungary's Ganzmavag

Lieutenant General Kamel El-Wazir, Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development and Minister of Industry and Transport, praised the railway car deal signed with Hungary, describing it as the largest in the history of the Egyptian Railways.

El-Wazir expressed his pleasure at meeting with Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjarto in Cairo, based on the distinguished relations between the two countries and the existing cooperation between the two sides in the railway sector. The meeting followed the completion of the deal to manufacture and supply 1,350 new passenger railway cars through the Hungarian company Ganzmávag.

Hungary delivered 1,037 cars which have entered service with the Railway Authority. These cars vary between (third-class dynamic ventilation, third-class air-conditioned, second-class air-conditioned, and first-class air-conditioned), in addition to second-class and third-class air-conditioned buffet cars. The minister highlighted that this deal is a major contract, aligning with President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi's directives to modernize the railway sector with advanced mobile units and enhance its capabilities using the latest global technologies. The deal will also improve daily operational efficiency and regulate schedules. The newly arriving cars are being progressively integrated into the railway's daily operations to ensure continuous, high-quality passenger services.

He stressed that Egypt is ready to cooperate with Hungarian companies to establish new factories in Egypt, in the targeted industries identified by the Ministry of Industry, to help meet the needs of the local market and export abroad, especially since the Egyptian market is promising and possesses various manufacturing components.

El-Wazir and Dr. Rania Al-Mashat, Minister of Planning, Economic Development, and International Cooperation, attended the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the Ministry of Environment and the Hungarian Ministry of Energy regarding technical cooperation in the field of environmental protection, in the presence of the official responsible for international cooperation in the field of energy at the Ministry of Energy.
