Kouchouk described UNCTAD as a strong voice for the Global South and a key supporter of integrating developing countries into the global economy.
Speaking at a roundtable on "Finance and Debt"
during the UNCTAD conference in Geneva, the Minister stated, "We look
forward to reforming the global financial structure and converting debt into
opportunities for investment and development to ease the burdens on developing
countries."
He also noted the need to introduce new mechanisms for
sustainable debt management in low and middle-income countries.
Kouchouk added that geopolitical tensions, climate change,
food security, and the digital divide are imposing enormous pressures on
developing economies.
He stressed the necessity of stimulating private sector
investment to help bridge development gaps and enhance the role of African
countries in trade, development, and the global economy in a fair and balanced
manner.
The Minister also pointed to the African Continental Free
Trade Area (AfCFTA) as a strategic opportunity to boost intra-African trade and
access to international markets.
He concluded by reiterating commitment to the spirit of multilateralism, the United Nations Charter, and collective dialogue to face international challenges.
