During his address at the launch ceremony this evening, Wednesday, which included notable guests like Ghassan Kabbani, Vice President of the African Golf Federation, and Mohamed Aziz Fetni , Executive Office Member of the Arab Golf Federation, Talaat stressed the championship's historical importance. Dating back to 1920, it remains one of the most enduring competitions in Africa and the Arab world, having represented integrity, sportsmanship, and national pride for over a century. He added, "This championship was, and still is, part of the story of Egyptian golf—a story of passion, tradition, and excellence."
He further highlighted the significance of the current
edition joining the Arab Golf Series. This regional platform, he explained, is
designed to unite the region's top players and provide enhanced opportunities
for competition and development. This strategic move is a key axis in the
shared vision to both elevate the status of Arab golf and expand the base of
professional players.
Omar Hisham further emphasized that golf in Egypt is entering a new era today. This revitalization is powered by the expansion of junior programs, the welcomed return of veteran champions, and the emergence of promising new talents who deserve sustained support and patronage. He stressed that the Egyptian Golf Federation is building its modern system on foundations of good governance and professional management—a strategy essential for achieving Egypt's vision of restoring its sporting leadership.
He also announced the return of the Egyptian Open
Championship as the most prominent professional event on the national golf
calendar. He noted that the winners of the top places will receive invitations to
two major upcoming tournaments: the Egyptian Professional Open Championship,
held in cooperation with the Asian Tour, and the Red Sea International Golf
Championship. These events, scheduled for the coming weeks, will effectively open
up broader horizons for our athletes to compete on the international stage.
Omar Hisham extended his thanks to the former Board of
Directors of the Federation for their dedicated efforts. He expressed his
appreciation to the organizing committees and volunteers who contributed to the
success of the event, affirming the Federation's commitment to the principles
of transparency, fairness, and merit in selecting players through open
qualifiers.
The President of the Egyptian Golf Federation concluded his speech by stressing that the Egyptian Amateur Open Championship is far more than just a sports competition. He declares that it embodies a message of confidence in the capabilities of Egyptian and Arab talent, and the spirit of unity and ambition driving golf towards a brighter future. This tournament, he concluded, marks the beginning of a new golden era and a real opportunity for a new generation of champions to shine on the global stage.
