Irrigation Ministry monitors investor compliance on Nile water projects

Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, Dr. Hani Sewilam, held a meeting to follow up on measures for developing Nile River fronts in various governorates.

During the meeting, the ministry reviewed several prototypes for promenades (walkways) prepared by the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation. The designs are intended to ensure the preservation of the Nile's water sector and comply with the regulations for construction in both the restricted and regulated zones along the riverbanks.

Sewilam directed the Nile River Development and Protection Sector to continuously monitor all current and future work along the Nile's banks to ensure full compliance with the stipulations of the Water Resources and Irrigation Law No. 147 of 2021 and its executive regulations. He also emphasized the importance of ensuring that individuals and investors refrain from carrying out any works within the river's water sector itself.

The Minister also instructed officials to study any proposals submitted by the governorates for developmental work along the banks aimed at serving citizens, provided that all applicable laws and regulations are strictly observed.

Sewilam stated that encroachments on the river channel negatively affect its capacity to pass the necessary water flows to meet various water demands. Therefore, the Ministry is confronting any violations with full decisiveness and halting encroachments in their infancy.

In this context, several projects for the protection and development of the Nile are currently underway. Completed works include the maintenance of the Deshna Nile Corniche in Qena governorate (approximately 370 meters) and the protection of Nile banks in the villages of El-Raqaba, El-Tonab, and El-Rediseia in Aswan governorate (reaching 400 meters).

Ongoing projects include the development of the Nile fronts in Nag Hammadi and Dandara in Qena (265 meters) and the protection of Nile banks near El-Qayzan village, Girga city, and El-Kula village in Sohag governorate (1,900 meters).
