Egypt Investment Authority discusses cooperation opportunities with Sri Lanka

Mr. Hossam Heiba, CEO of the Authority, received His Excellency Sisira Seneveratne, Ambassador of the Republic of Sri Lanka to Egypt.

The meeting focused on enhancing investment and trade cooperation between the two countries. It also discussed mechanisms to activate the Joint Ministerial Committee to advance economic relations. This follows the recent momentum from the foreign ministers’ meeting in August.

Both sides praised the success of Sri Lankan investments in Egypt.

The Ambassador highlighted his country’s plans to expand these investments, particularly in the textiles and ready-made garments sector. He noted Sri Lanka’s extensive expertise and willingness to share knowledge for mutual benefit.

Mr. Heiba highlighted Egypt’s ongoing efforts to improve the investment climate. He stressed that the country is undergoing a qualitative transformation to attract more investors.

The Ambassador expressed his pleasure at the long-standing historical ties between the two nations. These date back to the 13th century when the first trade missions from Sri Lanka arrived in Egypt.

He added that the democratically elected Sri Lankan government is strongly focused on attracting investment and ensuring economic stability. The country has successfully overcome recent economic challenges. He also noted improvements in the business environment and its success in attracting foreign direct investment.

The meeting concluded with both sides reaffirming the importance of strengthening cooperation, especially in textiles, fintech, and tourism. They also expressed readiness to further promote investment growth between Egypt and Sri Lanka.
