El-Sisi reviews telecom development plans

President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi met today, Sunday, with Prime Minister Dr. Moustafa Madbouly, Interior Minister Mahmoud Tawfik, Communications and Information Technology Minister Dr. Amr Talaat, Chief of General Intelligence Major General Hassan Rashad, Acting Head of the Administrative Control Authority Major General Amr Adel Hosni, and Head of the Armed Forces Signal Department Major General Hany Mahmoud Mansour.

Presidential Spokesperson Ambassador Mohamed El-Shenawy stated that the President reviewed a comprehensive report on plans to develop telecom networks, aimed at enhancing efficiency and expanding coverage to provide high-quality services nationwide. The President instructed continued reinforcement of network capabilities, expansion of coverage areas, and optimal utilization of modern technologies, particularly 5G capabilities.

El-Shenawy added that this meeting was followed by a smaller session, during which the Minister of Communications and Information Technology presented the ministry’s activities. He noted that since November 2022 up to 2024, 74 outsourcing companies had committed to hiring 60,000 specialists in Egypt, adding that the country now hosts more than 260 outsourcing centers, including around 190 centers operated by international companies.

On electronics design, the minister reported that 83 companies are currently active in 2025, with a target of reaching 120 companies by 2028. He further confirmed that Egypt leads the region in attracting investments directed toward startups in the ICT sector.

The spokesperson noted that the President reaffirmed the state’s full support for the communications and IT sector, emphasizing the importance of launching initiatives and establishing specialized centers to prepare qualified cadres, while ensuring strict objectivity in selecting the best talent and providing them with high-level training.

The President also directed the adoption of clear, implementable strategies for artificial intelligence, with a focus on research, development, and training, ensuring the optimal use of available resources and maximizing their benefits.
