Shimi visits anode blocks in Suez

Engineer Mohamed Shimi, Minister of the Public Business Sector, began his visit this morning to the Egyptian Carbon Anode Blocks Company in the Ain Sokhna Free Zone, a subsidiary of the Holding Company for Metallurgical Industries. He started his tour by meeting with Major General Tarek El Shazly, Governor of Suez, along with a number of parliamentarians representing the governorate.

Shimi praised the constructive cooperation with the Suez Governorate, highlighting its position as a key industrial and investment hub in the national economy. He stated that the Ministry is committed to ongoing coordination with governorates, as well as with executive and legislative leaders, to support integrated development through various industrial and investment projects carried out by affiliated companies.

He noted that the visit aims to follow up on the executive steps to restart the Ain Sokhna anode plant, which has been out of operation for more than two years. The revival of the plant comes under the framework of an agreement signed around six months ago between the Egyptian Carbon Anode Blocks Company and British Petroleum. This agreement is expected to enhance the aluminum production chain and provide high-quality local alternatives.

El Shazly welcomed the minister’s visit and praised the efforts to bring the anode blocks plant back into operation. He stressed that the project represents a valuable addition to Egypt’s aluminum industry and confirmed the governorate’s full readiness to provide all necessary support and coordination for its success.

Members of Parliament expressed appreciation for the Ministry’s efforts in revitalizing industrial assets and called for continued work to increase investment and localize strategic industries within the governorate. The meeting was attended by Engineer Mohamed El-Saadawy, Executive Managing Director of the Holding Company for Metallurgical Industries, Engineer Ahmed Allam, Chairman of the Egyptian Carbon Anode Blocks Company, and Representatives Sayed Abdo, Gamal Obeid, and Sayed El-Karmawy.
