BP Egypt marks a decade of community development in West Nile Delta

BP Egypt has announced it is celebrating 10 years of community development programs focused on areas surrounding its operated West Nile Delta Gas Plant in Beheira Governorate.

The announcement coincided with a visit by Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawi, who met with a BP delegation that included William Lin, Executive Vice President for Gas and Low Carbon Energy, Nader Zaki, Regional President for the Middle East and North Africa, and Wael Shaheen, Head of BP Egypt. The meeting underscored the ongoing partnership between BP and the Egyptian government.

During the visit, the delegation presented Badawi with a copy of the "Tenth Anniversary Report on Community Development Projects." The report detailed key achievements, including an investment of over $10 million in more than 50 development projects. These initiatives, spanning vocational training, healthcare, entrepreneurship, sustainability, and infrastructure development, were all aimed at serving communities near the West Nile Delta Gas Plant.

Nader Zaki, BP's Regional President for the Middle East and North Africa, highlighted the milestone. "Today, we are proud to mark ten years since the launch of our social development efforts in the areas surrounding the West Nile Delta Gas Plant," Zaki said. "This is part of our strategy in the Middle East and North Africa, which aims to align our energy operations and projects with local needs, foster human development, and build partnerships that create long-term shared value."

Wael Shaheen, Vice President of BP Egypt, added that the company's "commitment to securing energy for Egypt is matched by a steadfast commitment to supporting local communities." He noted that over the past decade, BP has "worked with governments, partners, and communities to create new opportunities, empower individuals, and develop key services" in the region, through initiatives aligned with national development priorities.

BP has operated in Egypt for over 60 years. The company holds an 82.75% stake in the West Nile Delta Gas Plant, with Harbour Energy holding the remaining 17.25%.
