Amawi calls for joint Arab strategy on customs, administrative cooperation

Ahmed Amawi, Head of the Customs Authority, emphasized the importance of developing a unified Arab strategy for customs and administrative cooperation to strengthen economic integration and facilitate intra-Arab trade, through the standardization of customs procedures and the exchange of expertise, experiences, and information among Arab countries within the framework of the Greater Arab Free Trade Area.

During the extraordinary meeting of Directors-General of Customs of Arab countries in Cairo on the establishment of the Arab Council for Customs Affairs, Amawi highlighted the objective of enhancing cooperation and coordination to advance the customs system by boosting technical capacities and harmonizing legislation, regulations, bylaws, and terminology across the region.

He also stressed the need for practical and more flexible solutions to customs-related challenges in order to streamline trade flows and deliver integrated, efficient, and competitive customs services that contribute to a more dynamic regional economic environment.
