Madbouly: Egypt seeks international support on migration challenges

Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly met Tuesday with Amy Pope, Director General of the International Organization for Migration (IOM), on the sidelines of the 4th International Conference on Financing for Development in Seville, Spain. Madbouly is attending the conference on behalf of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.

Ambassador Osama Abdel Khalek, Egypt's permanent representative to the UN, and Ihab Badawy, Egypt's ambassador to Spain, also attended the meeting.

Madbouly thanked Pope for the reception and praised the ongoing cooperation between Egypt and the IOM. He stressed Egypt's consistent emphasis on regional security and stability, particularly given the burdens faced by populations due to instability, which often leads to waves of migration and asylum.

The Prime Minister highlighted Egypt's commitment to providing various services to residents in Egypt, a commitment that has earned praise from international organizations.

Pope commended the cooperation between Egypt and the IOM, affirming the Organization's support for Egypt and the importance of continued collaboration.

During the discussion, Madbouly called for necessary international community support for Egypt, citing the economic challenges stemming from regional and international crises that have increased burdens on the country.

In response to a query from Pope, Madbouly detailed Egypt's efforts with European nations to regulate legal migration and seasonal labor, leveraging Egypt's skilled workforce across various sectors.

Madbouly concluded the meeting by expressing his readiness to explore further cooperation with the IOM.
