The meeting addressed increasing the company's investments in Egypt, discussing several cooperation projects and areas of joint work, and the completion of the project to add 300 megawatt-hours of battery storage to the 500-megawatt Abydos 1 project in Aswan Governorate, which was inaugurated last December.
The meeting also addressed the completion of the 500-megawatt wind power generation project in Zafarana, and the process of connecting the new capacity to the unified grid. The meeting addressed the implementation process and procedures for adding capacity of up to 1,500 megawatts through independent storage batteries, as part of the plan to secure power supply during peak times. The meeting also addressed the need to expedite the necessary steps for this project, given its importance in stabilizing the grid and maximizing returns from renewable energy.
The meeting also addressed the implementation progress of the Abydos 2 solar project, with a capacity of 1,000 megawatts, in addition to a 600 megawatt-hour battery storage system, and the progress of this important project. The meeting also included discussions on several future cooperation projects within the framework of the partnership and cooperation between the electricity sector and Al Nowais Group, and efforts to increase the company's investments during the next phase.
Esmat explained that the private sector is a key partner in implementing the energy strategy and expanding and relying on renewable energy. It is leading the implementation of projects within the framework of the strategy, highlighting the need to benefit from natural resources, especially new and renewable energy sources, and increase the contribution of renewable energy to the energy mix to more than 42% by 2030, and 65% in 2040.
He pointed out the interest the electricity sector is paying to spreading the use of renewable energy, reducing carbon emissions, increasing the contribution of renewable energy to the energy mix, and diversifying energy production sources. He praised the cooperation and partnership with the Emirati company AMEA Power, as well as the company's commitment to the timeline and implementation schedules for its projects and working to add new capacities to the grid before their scheduled dates, which opens the way for more partnership and cooperation projects.
