President Sisi marks Labor Day at Suez Steel headquarters

President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi attended the Labor Day celebration held at the Suez Steel Company in Suez City on Saturday.

Presidential Spokesperson Ambassador Mohamed El-Shenawy announced that the event featured a documentary titled "Generous Hands" highlighting Egyptian workers, a film about the Suez Steel Company, and speeches from key officials. These included Lieutenant General Kamel El-Wazir, Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development and Minister of Transport, Mohamed Gobran, Minister of Manpower, Abdel-Moneim El-Gamal, President of the Egyptian Trade Union Federation (who presented the President with the Federation's shield), and Rafik Daw, Vice Chairman and Managing Director of Suez Steel Company.

El-Shenawy added that the President viewed a video conference showcasing successful new private sector factories. He also presented awards to distinguished individuals from various labor sectors before inaugurating the second phase of the Suez Steel Company.

In his Labor Day address, President El-Sisi stated, "I extend my heartfelt congratulations to you all on Labor Day, expressing profound respect and appreciation for Egypt's dedicated workers. They are a cornerstone of our nation's progress and development. May you and our beloved Egypt prosper always.  

He emphasized that the celebration was more than a tradition, serving as a testament to the state's recognition of the value of labor and its vital role in national development and industrial advancement.

He further explained that holding the celebration at a new industrial site in Suez City underscored the city's dynamic development and the launch of numerous new projects, portraying a compelling image of success, resilience, and determination. "Each newly opened factory and production facility across Egypt stands as a testament to the remarkable achievements of our citizens, built through their strength, resolve, and unwavering spirit," he concluded.

During his address, President El-Sisi announced the signing of the 'New Labor Law,' emphasizing its significance as a major advancement in labor rights. He highlighted its provisions for worker benefits, protection, fairness, women's rights, job security, and alignment with international labor standards, positioning it as a crucial step towards a stable and balanced work environment for the New Republic. Additionally, he instructed the government to:

Finalize the Domestic Labor Law draft and initiate public dialogue.

Extend social protection to informal workers, including death benefits.

Launch youth skills development initiatives through free training grants tailored to labor market needs.  

Accelerate the resolution of labor disputes to ensure timely compensation.

Establish a permanent committee to oversee the National Employment Strategy's implementation.
