Huawei expands its investments in Egypt

Dr. Amr Talaat, Minister of Communications and Information Technology, discussed with Benjamin Hou, the new CEO of Huawei Egypt, on Thursday, the company's plans to expand its investments in the Egyptian communications and information technology sector, and opportunities for cooperation in several areas, most notably digitalization, digital capacity building, and artificial intelligence.

Talaat congratulated Benjamin Hou on assuming his new position, expressing his aspiration for further cooperation. He stressed the Ministry's commitment to strengthening partnerships with major international companies operating in the sector, achieving the goals of Egypt's digital strategy and contributing to the state's efforts to build a digital economy. He also highlighted Huawei's role in implementing numerous projects that strengthen Egypt's position as a regional center in the fields of electronics manufacturing, artificial intelligence, and technological infrastructure.

Hou said, "I was honoured to meet with Dr. Talaat. Huawei has been operating in Egypt for over 25 years, and we remain committed to our partnership by providing the latest technology, accelerating digitalization, and building digital capabilities to achieve Egypt's Digital Strategy."

The meeting discussed developments on Huawei’s projects in Egypt, and highlighted the state's efforts to integrate artificial intelligence technologies in vital sectors. Cooperation was discussed in the field of using artificial intelligence solutions to support digitalization and to develop applications in the field of health.

They also discussed ways to enhance joint cooperation in a number of fields, most notably electronics manufacturing, government cloud computing, and developing the digital infrastructure by extending fiber-optic cables, in addition to supporting entrepreneurship by providing programs directed to emerging companies working in the field of artificial intelligence that include computing resources.
