Dr. Al-Mashat underscored the strong, long-standing relationship between Egypt and the AfDB. She elaborated that the ongoing country strategy aims to bolster Egypt's competitiveness to drive private sector-led growth and job creation, while also building resilience for food and water security and energy efficiency.
The Minister highlighted the diverse areas of cooperation
with the AfDB, notably the Bank's leadership of the water pillar within the
"NWFE" national platform. This initiative seeks to secure funding
from multilateral and bilateral partners for water projects that enhance
climate change mitigation and adaptation efforts. She also emphasized the
AfDB's crucial role in financing both local and foreign private sector
ventures.
Dr. Al-Mashat noted Egypt's significant standing within the AfDB as the second-largest shareholder and voting power among regional countries (after Nigeria) and the third-largest overall (after the US and Nigeria), granting it substantial influence in the Bank's strategic decisions.
