The decision followed a tripartite meeting between Supply Minister Dr. Sherif Farouk, Agriculture Minister Alaa Farouk, and Dr. Bahaa El-Ghanam, head of the Future of Egypt Agency for Sustainable Development. The move aims to secure local needs and curb potential price hikes during the upcoming peak consumption season.
Shipments of frozen whole chickens, as well as breasts and
thighs, are scheduled to arrive from multiple international sources before the
start of Ramadan. The products will be sold at discounted prices through a
nationwide network of fixed and mobile outlets, including the Ahlan Ramadan
exhibitions.
The first shipments are set to arrive ahead of the Muslim
holy month of Ramadan, destined for sale at discounted prices via a nationwide
network of state-run fixed and mobile outlets, as well as the "Ahlan Ramadan"
trade fairs.
The initiative aims to broaden access to essential goods and
ease the cost-of-living burden on Egyptian households during the peak
consumption season.
Authorities said the move is part of a broader strategy to
bolster strategic food reserves, stabilize volatile market prices, and ensure a
steady supply of commodities through Ramadan and the following months.
The three state bodies—the ministries of supply and agriculture, alongside the Future of Egypt Agency—pledged to maintain regular monitoring to ensure the rapid distribution of the imports. They added that further measures would be taken if necessary to increase the supply of staples and safeguard national food security.
