GAFI inks new deals at Egyptian-Turkish Business Forum

Egypt and Turkey moved to solidify their economic alliance Wednesday as top officials and over 400 companies gathered in Cairo for the "Economic Opportunities for a Strategic Partnership" forum, authorities said.

Engineer Mohamed El- Gossaki, CEO of the General Authority for Investment and Free Zones (GAFI), told the Egyptian-Turkish Business Forum that Cairo is leveraging its strategic geography and digital transformation to offer tangible results for investors.

The high-level meeting, held under the auspices of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, featured a massive turnout from the business communities of both nations, signaling a robust return to bilateral economic cooperation.

"Egypt is working to convert economic indicators into concrete outcomes by providing executable investment opportunities and a stimulating environment," El- Gossaki said. He emphasized that the government is prioritizing transparency and the culture of cooperation over competition to support mutual growth.

Highlighting Egypt’s role as a regional hub, the GAFI chief pitched the country’s comprehensive economic reforms and trade access to European, African, and Middle Eastern markets. He specifically pointed to sectors such as logistics, renewable energy, and digital transformation as prime areas for Turkish expansion.

To facilitate this, El-Gossaki promoted the Golden License, a streamlined, comprehensive approval for major projects, and pledged that GAFI would eliminate any bureaucratic hurdles facing Turkish firms.

Adel Lamei, co-chair of the Egyptian-Turkish Business Council, echoed the sentiment, noting that the forum marks a real opportunity to launch new partnerships. He predicted a significant increase in bilateral trade and a greater presence for each country's products in the other’s market in the coming period.

The forum was organized by the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade, alongside GAFI, as part of a state-led effort to support the economic partnership with Ankara. Officials stressed their commitment to removing obstacles for Turkish investors through direct dialogue between the government and the business community. This approach aims to create a more attractive investment climate and open direct communication channels to ensure mutual benefits for both nations.
