Central Bank chief joins Dubai high-level Arab fiscal forum

The Central Bank Governor Hassan Abdalla joined regional finance ministers and international lenders at the 10th Arab Public Finance Forum in Dubai to discuss macroeconomic resilience amid global uncertainty, officials said Wednesday.

Held under the theme "A Decade of Fiscal Dialogue: Building Macroeconomic Resilience through Strengthening Fiscal Policies and Institutions," the forum was organized by the UAE Ministry of Finance in partnership with the Arab Monetary Fund (AMF) and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) as part of the 2026 World Governments Summit.

The gathering featured UAE Minister of State for Financial Affairs Mohamed bin Hadi Al Hussaini, IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva, and AMF Director General Fahad bin Mohamed Al-Turki, alongside a cohort of Arab central bank governors and finance ministers.

Abdalla participated in the forum’s opening session, "Arab World Prospects Amid Shocks and Uncertainty," which analyzed the impact of global trade and financial tensions on Arab economies. Participants explored strategies to bolster fiscal buffers and enhance the capacity of regional institutions to withstand external crises.

On the sidelines of the event, Abdalla held high-level talks with the IMF’s Georgieva to review Egypt’s macroeconomic indicators and progress under the country’s ongoing economic reform program. The meeting was attended by IMF Executive Director Mohamad Maait and Jihad Azour, the IMF’s Director for the Middle East and Central Asia.

The Governor also met with AMF chief Fahad Al-Turki to discuss bilateral cooperation and shared economic priorities for the region.

The forum concludes a decade of fiscal dialogue, focusing on digital transformation, public spending efficiency, and the integration of advanced technologies in financial management to support sustainable development.
