"I am very pleased with the unprecedented development in the EU-Egypt partnership, which is now yielding tangible results on the ground," Ambassador Eichhorst stated.
The European Commission announced on Thursday the release of
the second €1 billion installment to Egypt under the Macro-Financial Assistance
(MFA) program. This disbursement is part of a broader €5 billion loan package
stipulated within the EU-Egypt Strategic and Comprehensive Partnership. The
first €1 billion tranche was successfully disbursed at the end of 2024.
Approved in March 2024, this financial assistance is designed to support the Egyptian government’s ongoing reform agenda. Key areas of focus include strengthening the national economy and enhancing fiscal resilience, improving trade competitiveness through streamlined measures, such as the competitive bidding process for industrial land and the digitalization of licensing procedures, and supporting sustainable initiatives that align with global environmental goals. These reforms are ultimately aimed at fostering a more robust economy that directly benefits Egyptian citizens.
