Amawi: ACI to cut air freight clearance times, lower trade costs

Ahmed Amawi, Head of the Customs Authority, confirmed that the success of the Advanced Cargo Information (ACI) system for maritime shipments is prompting its implementation for air freight starting January 1. The move aims to reduce customs clearance times for air freight and lower import and export costs, while allowing real-time tracking of shipments from the exporting country to final clearance at airports.

Amawi indicated that the air freight ACI system is based on a unified platform that ensures fast and efficient electronic document exchange, facilitating procedures for importers and exporters. He explained that the mandatory use of electronic signatures guarantees the integrity of procedures and minimizes human error in customs clearance.

He added that the system ensures the quality and safety of goods arriving by air before they reach Egypt, enabling authorities to prevent substandard or non-compliant products from entering local markets.

Amawi also stressed that efforts are underway to open new horizons for maximizing national exports and enhancing their access to global markets.
