EDA, SPIMACO strengthen pharma ties, expand into African markets

Dr. Ali El-Ghamrawy, Chairman of the Egyptian Drug Authority (EDA), held a meeting with a delegation from SPIMACO Pharmaceutical Company, led by Dr. Ahmed Al-Judai, CEO of SPIMACO Pharmaceutical in Saudi Arabia, as part of efforts to strengthen bilateral cooperation in pharmaceutical localization and the exchange of regulatory and technical expertise.

The meeting discussed mechanisms for localizing the production of several pharmaceutical products in Egypt, which will be manufactured domestically, as well as strategies for accessing African markets.

El-Ghamrawy emphasized the importance of supporting pharmaceutical localization in Egypt, noting that this approach enhances national health security and strengthens the export capabilities of Egyptian products to regional and African markets.

He added that the EDA continually seeks to provide a regulatory and legislative environment that incentivizes both local and regional companies, ensuring the quality and safety of pharmaceutical products.

Dr. El-Ghamrawy also highlighted that cooperation between the EDA and major pharmaceutical companies like SPIMACO represents a model of successful partnerships, reflecting Egypt’s commitment to becoming a leading regional hub for pharmaceutical manufacturing and exports.

The SPIMACO delegation praised the efforts of the Egyptian Drug Authority in developing the pharmaceutical sector, affirming their commitment to expanding cooperation with the authority in localization and innovation, serving the needs of the local market and supporting the entry of Egyptian products into African markets.

The SPIMACO delegation included Engineer Abdullah Al-Rashidi, Chief Operations Officer and Plant Manager in Al Qassim; Dr. Hany El-Husseiny, General Manager of SPIMACO Egypt; Muhannad bin Jamal, Executive Director of Corporate Communications; and Dr. Norihan Mamdouh, Registration Manager at SPIMACO Egypt.

From the Egyptian Drug Authority, attendees included Dr. Hanan Amin, Head of the Central Administration for Pharmaceutical Products, and Dr. Osama Hatem, Deputy Chairman of the Authority and Supervisor of the Central Administration for Pharmaceutical Policies and Market Support.

The meeting underscores the Egyptian Drug Authority’s commitment to supporting partnerships with regional and international pharmaceutical companies and enhancing Egypt’s position as a regional center for pharmaceutical manufacturing and exports.
