Supporting efforts to establish German industrial zone in SCZone

Egypt and Germany agreed to support efforts to establish a German industrial zone in the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZone).

This came during the current visit of Engineer Hassan El-Khatib, Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade, to Germany. El-Khatib participated in the official opening of the Arab-German Economic Forum, attended by Katharina Reiche, the new German Minister of Economics and Energy, and approximately 250 German and Arab companies.

El-Khatib reviewed economic and trade developments between Egypt and Germany, and the reforms being undertaken by the Egyptian government in fiscal, monetary, and trade policies. He highlighted the coordination and harmony the Egyptian government is witnessing between various ministries and sectors. He also presented some of the decisions taken by the Ministry to increase Egypt's competitiveness in trade and reduce customs clearance times.

The Minister highlighted the most prominent investment opportunities available in Egypt, the incentives currently offered by the Egyptian state, and the advantages German investors will enjoy, including trained labor and trade agreements that enable export to many markets surrounding Egypt, as well as the modern infrastructure currently available in Egypt.

The meeting addressed potential for joint cooperation between Egypt and Germany, as well as coordination for holding the seventh session of the joint committee between the two countries this year. The German Minister will head a government delegation, accompanied by a trade and investment mission from major German companies interested in investing in the Egyptian market.
