Agricultural exports: Onions, grapes dominate, Indonesia top buyer

In a single week, Egypt exported 3,420 food consignments, totaling approximately 155,000 tons, from 1,100 exporting companies to various countries worldwide.

The National Food Safety Authority (NFSA), in its 21st weekly report for 2025 (covering June 14-20), stated that these exports included nearly 615 varieties of vegetables, fruits, black molasses, and diverse food products.

The General Department of Factory Control conducted 44 supervisory missions last week in cooperation with the Industrial Control Authority, resulting in the registration of 13 new establishments across the country.

The Department of Control over Packing Stations and Centers carried out 23 inspection, examination, and accreditation visits. Furthermore, the department issued 956 export permits for agricultural products from 654 exporting companies.

Onions led the list of exported Egyptian vegetables last week, with 11,000 tons, followed by potatoes at approximately 7,000 tons, and then mixed frozen vegetables totaling 5,000 tons. The total number of exported vegetable varieties reached 46, amounting to 30,000 tons.

For fruits, fresh grapes topped the export list last week with a total of 20,000 tons, followed by citrus fruits at 11,000 tons, and strawberries in third place with 10,000 tons. The total number of exported fruit varieties was 30, totaling approximately 45,000 tons.

Indonesia, the Netherlands, Saudi Arabia, and Russia were the largest recipients of Egyptian exports last week, out of a total of 195 importing countries.

Damietta Port ranked first in the number of food consignments exported, with a total of 530 consignments, followed by Safaga Port with 520 consignments, and then Cairo Airport Port with 500 consignments.

Last week saw the issuance of 715 health certificates for export, in line with the new mechanism implemented at the beginning of 2025. The National Food Safety Authority is now responsible for issuing export fitness certificates in accordance with approved technical regulations.

Conversely, Egypt received approximately 2,160 food consignments, totaling an estimated 487,000 tons, imported by 935 companies. The imported varieties included 300 different types, such as wheat, soybeans, raw sugar, and various oils. Ukraine topped the list of exporting countries to Egypt last week, among 74 countries, followed by Brazil, Russia, and Bulgaria.

Alexandria Port maintained its first-place position in terms of the number of incoming food consignments, with 700 consignments, followed by Cairo International Airport Port in second place with 505 consignments, and then Sokhna Port with 295 consignments.

Furthermore, 1,056 food consignments under temporary release were cleared, while 500 consignments were cleared through the fast-release system. In the context of implementing decisions from the grievances committee, 60 consignments had official reports filed. Regarding import activities, 64 import licenses were issued to importers during the same period.
