CBE Governor attends EGX ceremony honoring CIB

Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) Governor Hassan Abdalla on Tuesday attended a ceremony honoring Commercial International Bank (CIB) after it was named Africa's best bank for sustainable finance in 2025.

The award, presented by the Egyptian Exchange (EGX), underscores the CBE’s ongoing efforts to integrate environmental, social, and governance (ESG) standards into the nation’s banking sector.

The CBE said in a statement that the recognition reflects tangible progress in aligning credit and financing policies with green economy goals and the state’s sustainable development agenda.

The event was attended by high-ranking officials, including Dr. Hussein Issa the Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs, Mohamed Farid Saleh the Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade, Ahmed Rostom the Minister of Planning and Economic Development, Ahmed El-Sheikh the Chairman of the Egyptian Exchange, and Hisham Ezz Al-Arab the CEO and Executive Board Member of CIB.

CIB’s win highlights a broader shift in the Egyptian financial landscape toward responsible banking, according to the CBE, as the country seeks to attract more international climate-focused investment.
