The meeting included Prime Minister Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, Minister of Supply Dr. Sherif Farouk, Minister of Agriculture Alaa El-Din Farouk, and Colonel Dr. Bahaa El-Ghannam, Executive Director of the "Future of Egypt" Agency for Sustainable Development.
Ambassador Mohamed El-Shennawy, Presidency Spokesperson,
stated that the meeting focused on ongoing preparations for the holy month of Ramadan.
Key highlights include product availability as the Minister of Supply confirmed
that all essential commodities are available in sufficient quantities. Ahlan
Ramadan exhibitions will offer discounts ranging from 15% to 25% on various
food items. 2.5 million Ramadan food boxes and bags have been prepared for
distribution.
The President ordered daily monitoring of markets to ensure
price compliance and product quality. The President warned that the state will
hold price-gougers accountable and use all legal mechanisms to curb market speculation,
with a specific focus on stabilizing poultry prices.
In a strategic move to overhaul the state-affiliated retail
sector, President El-Sisi officially approved the "Carry On" project.
This national initiative will unify the branding and identity of all
government-run consumer complexes and supply outlets. The goal is to create a
streamlined, modern retail experience that ensures consistent quality and
pricing across the Republic.
Beyond immediate holiday preparations, the President
reviewed Egypt's long-term strategic reserves. Key pillars of the discussed
strategy include accelerating efforts to achieve domestic independence in
agricultural, livestock, and poultry production, integrating advanced digital
systems to track supply chains and ensure subsidies are accurately targeted to
those most in need, and enhancing crop yields by updating agricultural strains
in coordination with the "Future of Egypt" Agency.
The discussions also touched on the activation of the Egyptian
Commodity Exchange. The President emphasized that a robust exchange would
protect both producers and consumers by establishing "fair prices"
and mitigating the impact of regional economic volatility. By leveraging
international management models, Egypt aims to cement its status as a regional
logistics hub for strategic commodity trading.
The President concluded by mandating full coordination between the Ministries of Supply and Agriculture and the "Future of Egypt" Agency to ensure the long-term sustainability of the nation's food supplies.
