El-Samadouny explained that superstructure works are currently being carried out by the operator, Damietta Alliance. The terminal is integrating advanced operating systems and modern technologies to ensure full commercial readiness and high operational efficiency, ultimately boosting the port's competitiveness within the global maritime transport landscape.
He highlighted the technical capabilities of the terminal's
giant cranes, which feature a lifting capacity up to 75 tons, vertical reach 57.5
meters above the pier, allowing for the handling of ultra-large vessels stacked
up to 11 containers high, and a 72-meter boom designed to service the world’s
widest container ships.
The "Tahya Misr 1" project stands as one of the
largest national undertakings within Damietta Port. The terminal features berth
length approximately 1,970 meters, draft depth 18 meters, total area 922,000
square meters, and annual capacity 3.5 million TEUs (Twenty-foot Equivalent
Units).
The project is being developed in partnership with a
high-profile international consortium, including Germany’s Eurogate, Italy’s Contship
Italia, and the global shipping line Hapag-Lloyd. El-Samadouny emphasized that
this partnership underscores international confidence in the investment climate
of Egypt’s maritime sector.
In his closing remarks, El-Samadouny stressed that the terminal's entry into service will represent a qualitative leap for the national transport and logistics ecosystem. He noted that the project is set to solidify Egypt’s role as a regional hub for container trade while providing critical support for both export and import operations.
