The meeting explored opportunities to enhance cooperation with the company, ranked fourth globally in mining, and inject additional investments into Egypt. This comes as AngloGold Ashanti secured two new exploration and exploitation licenses for gold in the Eastern Desert, adding to its current operations and ambitious plans for developing the Sukari gold mine.
The Minister affirmed the ministry’s full support for the
company's efforts, both in bolstering gold production at Sukari (following
recent discussions with the Prime Minister) and in accelerating gold
exploration activities in its new concession areas. He noted that the work
would align with the new gold and mineral exploitation agreement model,
designed to meet global investment attraction standards and serve as a
launchpad for broader mining investments in Egypt.
The discussion also covered potential cooperation in training
and human capacity building. This includes studying a partnership to prepare
training and qualification programs for Egyptian geologists and mining
engineers at AngloGold Ashanti's various global sites. Furthermore, they
addressed collaboration in occupational safety, health, and environmental
protection, leveraging the company's best practices, recognizing AngloGold as a
strategic partner to Egypt's mining sector.
The two new licenses grant AngloGold Ashanti a unique opportunity for large-scale exploration and prospecting across over 2,200 square kilometers in untouched areas within the Arabian-Nubian Shield, which is rich in gold and minerals.
