Gamal El-Din: SCZONE attracts $11.6 bln in investments

Walid Gamal El-Din, Chairman of the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZone), participated in the Jiangsu-Egypt Economic and Trade Cooperation Conference in Cairo, aimed at boosting trade and investment partnerships between companies from China's Jiangsu Province and Egypt.

The conference focused on deepening economic cooperation within the framework of the "Belt and Road" Initiative and Egypt's Vision 2030, while exploring new opportunities between the SCZone and Chinese investors.

Gamal El-Din also held a bilateral meeting with Si Yong, Director-General of the Department of Commerce of Jiangsu Province, to discuss industrial and investment prospects.

In his address, Gamal El-Din affirmed that the SCZone has become an attractive platform for global investments, citing its advanced infrastructure, the integration of its ports with industrial zones, and a competitive package of incentives.

He revealed that over the past three and a half years, the SCZone successfully attracted investments estimated at $11.6 billion, with 50% of this amount being Chinese capital. This underscores the strong economic partnership and the significant interest of Chinese companies in the zone.

Gamal El-Din highlighted the extensive cooperation with the Chinese-Egyptian TEDA zone within the SCZone, which encompasses over 200 industrial, service, and logistics projects with total investments exceeding $3 billion. Furthermore, Chinese investments in the West Qantara Industrial Zone surpass $700 million.

He stressed the SCZone’s high regard for Jiangsu Province's economic weight and its readiness to provide full support to companies from the province looking to expand their investments, in line with the leadership's vision to boost economic cooperation and industrial localization.

For his part, Si Yong expressed his pleasure in strengthening cooperation with Egypt, especially the SCZone, noting it as a testament to the long-standing historical relations between the two countries. He pointed out that Jiangsu Province features 16 advanced manufacturing sectors and 158 officially certified development zones.

Si Yong stated that the contracted investment volume of Jiangsu companies in Egypt totals approximately $240 million, reflecting the province’s growing economic presence in the Egyptian market.

The conference was attended by representatives from the Chinese Embassy in Egypt, Egyptian business associations, and Jiangsu foreign trade companies, reinforcing the SCZone’s efforts to enhance international partnerships and attract FDI.
