Officials discussed the possibility of developing a regional
platform for users in Egypt and Africa. The platform aims to support
connectivity and integration with African and Middle Eastern markets, enhance
intra-regional trade, and expand access to global markets.
The meeting also reviewed the establishment of a regional
Alibaba Group center within the Egyptian Authority for Unified Procurement’s
strategic warehouses. The center will serve as an advanced logistics hub for
the entire African continent and will contribute to supporting and implementing
the African Pooled Procurement Mechanism (APPM), enhancing integration within
the regional supply and logistics system.
Officials addressed several proposed areas of cooperation,
including enhancing export and import opportunities for Egyptian and African
products through Alibaba’s global platforms, driving digital transformation
through advanced solutions for data management, digital infrastructure, and
artificial intelligence, fostering scientific research and innovation among
research institutions in Egypt, China, and African countries in the fields of
artificial intelligence and digital infrastructure, and promoting cooperation
in the healthcare sector through participation in the Africa Health Exhibition
scheduled for June, technology transfer, and training local personnel in
medical equipment maintenance.
Dr. Hisham Stait, Chairman of the Egyptian Authority for
Unified Procurement, stated that cooperation with Alibaba Group aligns with the
Authority’s vision to enhance regional integration and adopt the latest digital
technologies in supply chain management and unified procurement. He emphasized
that establishing a regional center within the strategic warehouses will position
Egypt as a major logistical gateway to Africa, supporting sustainable
development efforts and maximizing the benefits of joint African initiatives.
