The two ministers agreed to boost cooperation and remove barriers to agricultural trade and open new avenues for collaboration between the two nations.
They agreed to sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on agricultural
research during a meeting of the Egyptian-Lebanese Higher Committee, which will
be chaired by the prime ministers of both countries. The MoU aims to facilitate
the exchange of expertise in several key areas, including pesticide residues, developing
plant varieties resistant to salinity, drought, and heat, exporting veterinary
serums and vaccines from Egypt to Lebanon, cooperation in aquaculture and fish
feed production, digital agricultural extension and media, and addressing
climate change challenges.
The Lebanese side confirmed that Egypt remains a priority
for potato imports, and both countries agreed to immediately exchange documents
and decisions related to agricultural trade to ensure a smooth flow of goods.
They also affirmed their commitment to training programs and reciprocal visits
to exchange expertise.
In a statement, Farouk said the talks reaffirmed the deep
historical ties between the two nations and their shared belief in cooperation
to address food security and climate change. He added that the meeting resulted
in tangible agreements that will enhance trade and open new avenues for
technical and research cooperation.
Minister Hani described the meetings as "fruitful and
constructive," highlighting the outcomes in research and trade
facilitation as a significant step toward securing the needs of the Lebanese market.
He also invited Farouk to attend the Agricultural Investment Conference in
Beirut in January 2026.
The sixth session of the joint technical committee is scheduled to be held in Beirut in August 2026.
