Egypt, Zambia discuss expanding joint agricultural projects

Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, Alaa Farouk, met in Cairo with Zambian Minister of Home Affairs and Internal Security, Jack Jacob Mwiimbu, and his delegation to discuss ways to enhance cooperation and review joint Egyptian farming operations in Zambia.

The two ministers focused on evaluating the performance of the joint Egyptian farms, Mumbish farm (200 hectares) and Kabwe farm (1,500 hectares), which are implemented in collaboration with the Zambian Ministry of Home Affairs. They reviewed the results and challenges of the past agricultural season and laid out strategic plans for the new season.

Both sides explored the potential for expanding Egyptian agricultural investment in Zambia and involving the Egyptian private sector. The goal is to maximize the use of Zambia's natural resources and Egypt's agricultural expertise to boost trade and create new jobs.

The ministers stressed the importance of deepening the partnership to achieve food security and agricultural productivity. They agreed to develop training programs for Zambian personnel in strategic crop production and to provide continuous technical support for agricultural development.

Both officials affirmed the depth of bilateral ties and their commitment to advancing agricultural investment and technical support to serve mutual interests in achieving sustainable development and food security.

The meeting follows the recent visit by Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema and aligns with directives from President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi to strengthen collaboration across various sectors, including agriculture.
