Egypt encourages Australian investment in mining sector

Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Engineer Karim Badawi, affirmed Egypt's open approach and strong encouragement of investments in the mining sector during a meeting with a delegation of Australian mining companies.

Badawi stressed the government's commitment to creating an attractive investment environment through a framework that ensures the economic viability of projects. He noted that recent reforms are simplifying procedures and licensing for investors. The Ministry plans to introduce a new package of incentives for mining investments in coordination with relevant authorities and is actively seeking feedback and proposals from investors.

The Minister highlighted Egypt's key competitive advantages for the sector's success: a mineral-rich geology, robust infrastructure, diverse energy sources, and stimulating legislation, stating that success is now a decision backed by genuine political will.

The Australian delegation reviewed the results of their two-day visit, which included tours of the Sukari mine, Nubian Mining Company, advanced mineral sample laboratories, and the Egyptian Mineral Resources Authority (EMRA).

Company representatives praised the cooperation they encountered and the government's keenness to support investors. They specifically commended the fundamental transformations in Egypt's investment climate, which they believe have made it a safe and stable destination for mining and mineral industries.

The delegation also expressed interest in the digital mining platform being developed by EMRA to facilitate procedures for investors and enhance the efficiency of geological data, as well as the regional aerial survey project aimed at updating geological maps and the mineral resources database.

Minister Badawi welcomed the delegation's positive impressions and their desire to establish partnerships to unlock the sector's full potential. He also praised their initiative to highlight the positive changes in the Egyptian mining sector through their communication channels.

The Australian delegation included executives from over 100 companies, such as Doug Horak (CEO of the Australian Africa Mining and Energy Group), Howard Golden (CEO of Marvell Gold), and representatives from SRK, BDO, and Lelantos Consulting Limited. The meeting was also attended by EMRA Chairman Geologist Yasser Ramadan.
