Egypt's Hallmarking Authority achieves international X-ray lab accreditation

In line with the directives of Dr. Sherif Farouk, Minister of Supply and Internal Trade, for the comprehensive development of affiliated laboratories, Dr. Hamdy Elhamahmy, Head of the Egyptian Hallmarking and Weights Authority, announced the official accreditation of the Authority's X-RAY laboratory by the National Accreditation Council (EGAC) and the International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (ILAC).

This achievement marks the X-RAY facility as the first of its kind in Egypt, Africa, and the Middle East specialized in the inspection and analysis of gold. The lab is crucial for analyzing gold jewelry and determining its karats/fineness, ensuring compliance with legal, calibration, and quality control standards, and analyzing sensitive samples where traditional inspection risks damage.

Dr. Elhamahmy stated that the accreditation represents a qualitative leap in Egypt's gold inspection and analysis system, reflecting significant development in the Authority's technical infrastructure.

The Hallmarking and Weights Authority is committed to the Ministry of Supply's vision of supporting institutional development and raising the efficiency of technical laboratories to ensure the highest levels of accuracy and quality.

Dr. Elhamahmy affirmed that this international recognition will enhance confidence in the Egyptian gold market and guarantee the quality of jewelry for consumers. The Authority's efforts continue toward developing the hallmarking and analysis system in line with international standards.
