Potatoes, mangoes top 155,000 tons in weekly food exports

The Egyptian National Food Safety Authority (NFSA) reported that Egypt exported 155,000 tons of food products during the week of August 30 to September 5, according to its 32nd weekly report for 2025.

The report, issued by the NFSA's General Administration of Exports and Imports, stated that a total of 3,135 food shipments were exported by 1,150 companies. These shipments included nearly 650 types of food products, such as flour, cereal products, molasses, fruits, vegetables, and various other items.

Sweet potatoes topped the list of exported vegetables with 6,000 tons, followed by beans with 5,000 tons and potatoes with 4,000 tons. The total vegetable exports amounted to 25,000 tons across 37 varieties.

For fruits, mangoes led the exports with 7,000 tons, followed by strawberries at 6,000 tons and pomegranates at 5,000 tons. The total fruit exports reached 22,000 tons across 25 varieties.

Egyptian food products were shipped to 177 countries, with Somalia, Sudan, Spain, and Libya among the top importers.

Regarding export ports, Safaga Port was the busiest, handling 460 food shipments, followed by Alexandria Port with 425 and Cairo International Airport with 380.

In support of food exports, the NFSA issued 1,000 health certificates during the week, ensuring product compliance with safety standards and bolstering international confidence in Egyptian exports.

On the import side, Egypt received 1,550 food shipments totaling 450,000 tons from 750 companies. Imports included wheat, raw sugar, various oils, and soybeans. Russia was the top food exporter to Egypt, followed by Brazil, Indonesia, and Ukraine, among 70 countries.

Alexandria Port remained the leading entry point for imports with 452 shipments, followed by Cairo International Airport with 306 and Port Said with 195.

The report also noted that 945 food shipments were released under temporary custody, while 310 shipments were part of the rapid release system. Following the decisions of the Appeals Committee, 98 shipments had case reports filed. Furthermore, 76 import licenses were issued during the same period.
