China's Xi meets PM Madbouly, hails strong ties

Chinese President Xi Jinping on Saturday met with Prime Minister Dr. Moustafa Madbouly at the guest house in the city of Tianjin to discuss issues of mutual interest.

The meeting took place on the sidelines of the Prime Minister's participation in the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Plus summit, where he is representing President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.

The meeting was attended by Egypt's Ambassador to China, Khaled Nazmy, a number of Chinese ministers, and China's Ambassador to Cairo, Liao Keqiang.

At the beginning of the meeting, President Xi asked that his greetings be conveyed to President El-Sisi, praising Egypt's accession to the SCO as the first Arab and African country to do so.

The Chinese President noted that Cairo and Beijing will celebrate the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations next year, and he praised the importance of the existing cooperation between the two countries on a bilateral level and in international forums.

Xi also stated that bilateral relations between the two countries are in their best phase, affirming his personal friendship with President El-Sisi. He underscored China's support for Egypt's efforts to maintain its sovereignty and expressed his appreciation for Egypt's supportive stance on the "One China" policy.

He also affirmed his support for Chinese companies to continue their work and expand their investments in the Egyptian market. He further backed plans for development and joint production in renewable energy, electric vehicles, and components for energy projects.

The Chinese President expressed his support for an increase in Chinese tourism to Egypt and for cooperation on water desalination projects. In this regard, he requested that a point of contact be designated for cooperation on the matter. The Prime Minister affirmed he would personally meet with the Chinese company nominated for cooperation in this field on Sunday.

The Chinese leader also welcomed the reissuance of Panda bonds, noting that the relevant authorities would be contacted regarding this matter.

President Xi Jinping also emphasized the importance of joint cooperation to uphold the international system based on international law and non-discrimination, as well as to preserve the international trade system.

The Chinese leader said his country supports the resolution of Middle East problems through dialogue and communication with Egypt, pointing to China's support for stability in the Red Sea region and Egypt's efforts to resolve conflicts in the area.

He also thanked President El-Sisi, requested that his greetings be conveyed to him, and congratulated him on the upcoming opening of the Grand Egyptian Museum, indicating his readiness to visit Egypt as soon as possible during his next African tour. At the same time, he said he looked forward to President El-Sisi's attendance at the China-Arab States Summit next year.

During the meeting, Prime Minister Dr. Moustafa Madbouly conveyed President El-Sisi's greetings to the Chinese leader, stating that the geopolitical circumstances surrounding the Middle East region prevented President El-Sisi from attending the SCO Plus summit. Madbouly added that El-Sisi expressed his hopes for the summit's success.

Madbouly also noted that China is Egypt's top trading partner, and he expressed his desire to encourage Chinese companies to invest in Egypt, especially given the successful models of Chinese companies in the Egyptian market, such as the industrial developer TEDA, where the total investments of the companies have exceeded $3 billion.
