Sisi urges timely completion of new monorail set for November launch

President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi on Monday held a meeting with Prime Minister Dr. Moustafa Madbouly, Lieutenant General Kamel Al-Wazir, Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development and Minister of Industry and Transport, Lieutenant General Ahmed El-Shazly, Advisor to the President for Financial Affairs, Major General Magdy Anwar, Director General of the National Service Projects Organization of the Armed Forces, and Major General Khaled Ahmed Abdallah, Head of the Financial Affairs Authority of the Armed Forces.

According to a statement from presidential spokesperson Mohamed El-Shenawy, the meeting focused on national projects aimed at boosting economic development and creating jobs. The discussions highlighted updates on several port projects, including the master plans for the Jarjoub Marine Port and the Abu Qir Marine Port, a new liquid bulk station at the East Port Said Port, and the management of the Galala Marina and Bernice Marine Port.

El-Sisi called for the continued development of Egypt's port network to integrate with existing infrastructure, maximize national benefits, and attract major international shipping lines.

The official spokesperson noted that the meeting also covered key transportation projects: the East-West Nile Monorail, with an expected opening date of November 2025, the first line of the high-speed electric train from Sokhna to Matrouh, scheduled to be operational by June 2026, and a high-speed train line linking El Salam City, 10th of Ramadan, and the New Administrative Capital, set for completion in March 2026.

El-Sisi emphasized the importance of adhering to these schedules, calling the projects a pillar for urban, industrial, and tourism development. He also stressed the need for a comprehensive review and upgrade of the road network to improve efficiency.

Officials also reviewed plans for expanding industrial zones to support national industry and reduce import reliance. Minister El-Wazir highlighted efforts to attract strategic investments in key sectors like iron, steel, and cement, citing progress at the Suez Steel and El Arish Cement companies.

The goal, according to the statement, is to expand local manufacturing, reduce import costs, and create more jobs. El-Sisi directed officials to accelerate the implementation of integrated logistical corridors that will connect production areas to the new maritime ports.
