Sisi meets Turkish FM amid growing bilateral ties

President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi today received Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, in the presence of Dr. Badr Abdelatty, Minister of Foreign Affairs. They discussed strengthening bilateral relations and addressing key regional issues.

Fidan conveyed greetings from Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, which Sisi reciprocated, stressing the importance of continued cooperation. El-Sisi highlighted the qualitative development in relations between the two countries, particularly following the February 2024 joint declaration that reactivated the high-level Strategic Cooperation Council and elevated it to a presidential level.

According to a statement from presidency spokesman Ambassador Mohamed El-Shennawy, both sides affirmed their commitment to boosting economic cooperation. They reiterated the goal, set during Sisi’s September 2024 visit to Ankara, to increase trade volume to $15 billion. The officials also emphasized the importance of expanding the participation of Turkish companies in investment projects in Egypt.

The meeting also covered developments on several regional files, with a particular focus on the situation in the Gaza Strip. Both leaders rejected any military re-occupation of the territory and called for an immediate ceasefire, the entry of humanitarian aid, and the release of all hostages and prisoners. They also stressed their firm opposition to the forced displacement of Palestinians.

Additionally, Sisi and Fidan discussed the situations in Libya, Syria, and Sudan. President Sisi outlined Egypt’s vision for achieving peace and stability in these countries and reviewed ongoing Egyptian efforts. The two sides underscored the importance of respecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of these nations and safeguarding the interests of their people.
