The meeting included a review of the project's current status. Initiated last August, the project, with Tecnimont as the general contractor, is set to produce 600 tons of nitric acid daily, which will then be fully converted into 800 tons of ammonium nitrate per day.
Shimi emphasized the project's crucial role in supporting
the national economy and food security. He highlighted its ability to enhance
the added value of Egypt's fertilizer industry, meet local market and farmers'
needs, increase agricultural crop productivity, and boost exports to foreign
markets. He further noted that industrial investments in Upper Egypt are a
priority due to their significant contribution to development and job creation.
Shimy stressed that the project must be executed to the highest quality,
safety, and environmental standards, adhere to the specified timeline, and
receive full support to overcome any implementation challenges.
He also pointed out that this project extends the successful
partnership with Tecnimont, following their collaboration on the KIMA 2 plant
for ammonia and urea production, which began operations in 2020.
For his part, Alessandro Bernini conveyed the Italian Group's
pride in its ongoing cooperation with Egyptian companies. He affirmed that this
project marks a new step in strengthening their relationship with KIMA and supporting
Egypt's strategy to develop its chemical industries infrastructure. Bernini
also highlighted the Group's commitment to transferring technology and
providing the latest engineering and executive solutions, ensuring the
project's efficient and high-quality implementation within the defined timelines.
The meeting was attended by Mario Franchin, Tecnimont's Executive Vice President for Africa, Ponziano Brandi, Senior Advisor for the North Africa, Chemist Saad Abu El-Maaty, Chairman of the Holding Company for Chemical Industries, and Accountant Emad Moustafa, Managing Director and Executive Board Member of the Holding Company.
